Polytunnel progress at Progress House!

Towards the end of 2011 we were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Greggs Foundation to buy a polytunnel for our gardens here at Progress House.

We bought the polytunnel a while ago but have been waiting a while for the perfect time, in terms of weather (!) and the availabilty of volunteers to start putting it up. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, everything was in place and we were ready to go.

James and Pete working hard on the initial stages of building the polytunnel.

When the polytunnel is finished we are planning to use it to grow seedlings & tender plants, offer educational and training opportunities to people, extend our growing season and offer people all the benefits of ‘growing your own’!

Vegetables and fruit are grown organically in our garden and the produce is used to provide healthy, home-made food in our community cafe.

The final touches still need to be made but we’re hoping to have the polytunnel functioning in the very near future and are looking forward ro reaping its benefits for years to come!

Big thanks are due to the Greggs Foundation for their support on this project.
